New Elac People

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Pauline Lorence, who joins Sue and Stephanie as a homestay co-ordinator in Eastbourne.  Pauline has plenty of experience with family finding and knows Eastbourne well.  She looks after families near to Eastbourne College, whereas Sue and Stephanie work with families near to Sussex Downs.

In Bath, we are pleased to announce that Tom and Verna Sutton have joined Elac as our homestay co-ordinators. They have hosted students before, and have a background in teaching, including teaching foreign students. They really enjoy matching students and families and helping them during their stay in England.

As the busy summer season approaches, we have also appointed Carys Alford as office assistant to join the team in Bath. Carys is TEFL qualified and has also worked in an office environment.

School Integration Programme Expands

For several years now Elac has run a programme where students from Kyoto Gakuen Junior High School from Japan have spent a week in a British school.  The success of the programme at Ratton School in Eastbourne has led to a similar partnership being established at Ralph Allen School in Bath.  Prior to the visit, the students have introduced themselves via Skype link-ups and by sending video letters, and while they are in the school British ‘buddies’ look after them.  It is hoped that this might lead to a reciprocal visit at some point in the future.  This type of programme is a great opportunity to involve British students in the kind of cultural experience that our courses facilitate, and from which they don’t usually benefit.

New Partnerships in China

2010 will mark the first co-operation for Elac with schools in The People’s Republic of China for some time.  Andrew McPhee recently visited The Hai Dian Foreign Language School in Beijing, a school with 3,500 boarding students, to meet with the Academic Director, Richard Yang, and the Principal Mr Li, and to give a presentation to the Grade 7 and 8 students.  Elac will be welcoming two groups of students to both Bath and Eastbourne.

By the way, if you can't quite read the announcement over the door, it says, "Welcome Mr Andrew McPhee from Elac Study Vacations" in two languages.
