Horsham and Christ's Hospital |

Christ’s Hospital School is located near Horsham, close to Gatwick Airport just to the south-west of London. The village has its own railway station with frequent trains to London and south coast towns. The school and local area have a lot to offer to visiting students too, including:
Our course takes place in the fabulous surroundings of one of the most impressive private schools in the United Kingdom. Christ’s Hospital first began teaching children in the 1550’s in Newgate, London, when it received the Royal Charter from Edward VI. Then in 1897 it moved to its magnificent present site near Horsham. It is known for its unique uniform of long blue coats and long yellow socks, but also for the fantastic opportunities it offers to bright children from poorer backgrounds: the majority of the students at this prestigious private school are on scholarships. The school’s facilities include a grand Victorian dining room that houses the largest painting in Europe; a chapel where all 800 pupils can worship together; and a theatre built to resemble the Globe in London. In addition to these grand buildings, Christ’s Hospital also boasts superb modern facilities including a very large indoor sports complex, Astroturf and tennis courts. These wonderful facilities, the traditional and the modern, are all set within a huge 500-hectare estate that extends as far as the eye can see.

The accommodation is in comfortable study bedrooms in one of the eight residential houses that are set on their own private avenue either side of the main school quadrangle. These have all been completely refurbished and have large common rooms and TV and relaxation rooms. Each house has its own entrance with digital security code on the front door. Most are twins and triples but there are also some singles. Elac house staff are always on hand to ensure thorough supervision of students. |

Excursions from Christ's Hospital Christ’s Hospital occupies an excellent position within easy of reach of a wide range of interesting destinations including London, Oxford, Winchester, and the South Coast. We offer three full day excursions as part of our programme (London, Oxford and Brighton), and there are opportunities to organise a further optional excursion if you would like to. |
Excursion 1 – London Christ’s Hospital (the village) has its own railway station, and so getting into the city couldn’t be easier: a five minute walk from the school through the village and a 55-minute train journey direct into London Victoria. From here, we take the students on a walking tour of the principal sights before lunch. After lunch they have the option to visit a museum or gallery, or to spend time hunting for souvenirs and bargains in the shopping areas. |
Excursion 2 – Oxford We travel to Oxford by coach (approximately 2 hours) and enjoy a walking tour of the city to learn about its history, including entrance into one of the famous colleges. In the afternoon students can choose to spend time in further sightseeing, wandering main shopping streets or in trying their hands at punting on the river. |

Excursion 3 – Brighton |
Brighton is a famous seaside resort town on the south coast. It has grown considerably over the last 20 years, and was recently awarded City status. We travel to Brighton by train and following a walk around the fascinating ‘Lanes’ (a series of narrow streets packed with small shops and restaurants) and past the famous Royal Pavilion, students have time to relax on the beach or visit the pier. The trip to Brighton includes entrance to the Sealife Centre. |
